Before I proceed, I will certainly explain what Facebook two factor authentication is, it is very important I do, and I have always done this in all my articles, this one is not a different case.

What is Facebook Two Factor Authentication?

Facebook two factor authentication is a security feature on Facebook, which enables a Facebook user to receive an authentication pin through a mobile number registered by him whenever someone tries to login to his account from a new device. This authentication code must be typed in for the login attempt to be successful, thereby protecting the account from unauthorized access.

This is because once the code is sent to the owner of the account, it must be used to proceed with the login process, meaning that only the person that has access to the registered phone number will be able to proceed with login. Wow, this is awesome, isn’t it?

Now, the next thing I must explain is how Facebook two factor authentication works.

How does Facebook two factor authentication work?

Read on below.

Facebook two factor authentication requires that you enable it while you still have access to your Facebook account, this will then remain active for as long as you let it. After enabling it, you must use an authentication pin sent to your registered phone number to login to your account from any new device even after putting your password.

Yes, the phone number you used in activating this feature must be with you anytime you want to access your Facebook account from a new phone or laptop, although you can also deactivate this feature at anytime in case you don’t want to use it anymore.

Note that you will only be required to input the authentication code once for any new device, after that, you can then freely login with the device as usual without having to input the authentication code again… The device will be recognized by Facebook after the first time of use.

Advantages of Facebook two factor authentication:

  • Your account remains more secure as far as the registered phone number is in your possession.
  • You will have no fear of unauthorized access since you must receive notification for any login attempt.
  • The authentication code will also serve as a way to notify you that someone is trying to access your Facebook account from another location.
  • You will only be required to input the authentication code once for any new device, after that, you can freely login with the device as usual without having to input the authentication code again… The device will be recognized by Facebook after the first time of use.

Listed below are the disadvantages in activating Facebook two factor authentication.

>> You must have your registered phone number available each time you want to access your Facebook from a new device, this is because even you the owner of the account cannot be granted access to your account without inputting the authentication code.

>> You can not login to your Facebook account from a new device in case of emergency if the registered phone number is not available with you.

>> You can not use that same phone number used for two factor authentication to reset your Facebook password, this is for security reasons though.

>> If you lose access to your registered phone number, that means you cannot access your account anymore after logging out from your old devices. The only option is to reset or deactivate the feature while your account is still logged in from your old devices.
